Bands to Watch #103: Mr Bones and the Dreamers

Mr Bones and The Dreamers (EP Cover)If you like your pop dramatic, slightly folky with a story and an attitude, Mr Bones and the Dreamers may well have what you’ve been looking for. Reminiscent of one of our first ever “Bands to Watch” features on The Outside Royalty in May 2007, Mr Bones and co offer a raft of unique sounds that will be a hidden gem of any decent music collection in coming years.

Having supported Slow Club, Alabama 3, Elvis Perkins, Okkervil River, The Walkmen and The Hold Steady recently, the band have emerged from Birminghams urban sprawl to create their own insular world that’s remarkably different from most of the other “paint-by-numbers” bands around at the moment. Emotionally draining, yet still joyous and exhilerating, they manage to switch from gentle vocals and delicate keys to pounding drums and soaring crescendos in a matter of moments, feeling perfectly natural where other bands would struggle to make the transition quite as smoothly.

Their single, “Are these actual miles?” is released on CatCutter Records next Monday (6th April 2009), and they support this with a series of dates (below). Check them out on the road – we’re sure you’ll enjoy it as much as our iTunes is at the moment.

Saturday 11th April 2009 – Leeds, Moog @ Cardigan Arms
Sunday 12th April 2009 – Cardiff, Revolution Bar
