Tallulah Rendall Libellus coverMost of the CDs we receive here at There Goes The Fear come looking completely indistinguishable to every other CD, so it makes such a change when we get something a bit different. For Tallulah Rendall, the CD jumped straight to the top of the pile – bright foil envelope, and a gorgeously illustrated 50 page book.

The book is full of wonderful full page photos, drawings, quotes and the lyrics to all of the songs, making it so worthwhile. If you want to see what I mean, have a look on Tallulah’s website, where you can have a preview of just what we mean.

Dreamy, vibrant and layered, she pulls on so many influences (including Shirley Bassey, who recently told Tallulah that she has a ‘wonderful voice’), and ends up with an album that is greater than the sum of its parts.

In these days full of new, strong female singers (including the likes of VV Brown, Florence and the Machine, La Roux and Marina and the Diamonds) Tallulah seems to have a great arty streak that sets her apart from these relatively forward looking artists – Tallulah takes past influences and just does them better.

Giving Goldfrapp a run for her money in the “cultured and interesting yet mainstream” stakes, there’s no doubting that Tallulah’s got the power to go places – I can’t say that it’s my personal choice to listen to at the end of the day, but if she can beat her way through to gain attention she should be on her way to big things.
