Interview: Apples

Earlier in the week when I introduced Apples I loved them so much I got them to answer some quick questions about what they’ve been up to of late…
Hello Apples. Who are you and what are you up to at the moment?
We are Norman, JP, Pedro, Glen and Greg. And at this exact moment in time we are in our studio, answering your questions whilst on a break from rehearsing. It’s really bloody hot outside though, so we’re not getting that much done today!
What do you reckon you sound like?
it’s kind of an 80’s / naughties crossover, however JP would describe it “like a box of quailish delight”.
On songwriting – how does it start for you? Lyrical concept? A riff? Turn of phrase? Or a drug fuelled orgy that results in a great song?
None of the above, it’s made in the same secretive way to that of iron brew!
Would you guys ever consider going busking at all? Or have you? Likewise, where’s one place you’d love to do a gig in that isn’t normally a gig venue?
We’ve done one on the top floor of a multi story car park, so to top that it would have to be something quite different, maybe on a tube train or something.
Five years time, you’re huge, you sell out UK Academy tours with ease. What’s your show like? Lots of effects and pyrotechnics? Any gimmicks or just have more room to wander about the stage?
We’ll take it one stage at a time probably, no fancy shit till it warrants it.
Before things really took off for Apples, what were your jobs? Did you have day jobs or just focus 100% on the music?
We’re hundred percent on the music now, but we’ve done a fair few hours in pizza hut between us!
Before going on stage, do you have any rituals, either individually or as a band?
Pre gig is a very casual affair usually, depending on how the soundcheck has gone.
What have you been listening to recently?
We all listen to different stuff, but some of the bands in there recently are: Tears for fears, Maccabees, XTC, House Martins, etc.
What’s coming up over the next few months for you?
Lots of writing and recording, we’re just gonna beast it, and hopefully do the album at the end of summer.
