Bands to Watch #126: Battant

Battant are a three piece electro outfit hailing from the City of London. These days, said ‘electro’ label may spring to mind the likes of La Roux and Frankmusik, yet Battant’s dark sounds are quite a distance from such commercial synths currently scattered amid the radio waves. If you’re more into the likes of Ladytron and Ipso Facto – you shall prolly like these guys.
You’ll notice how Battant’s new wave beats rattle almost uncomfortably from the speakers – made rigid and rough by genius dashes of punk. The trio certainly echo the darker side of the synth – think Depeche Mode and Talking Heads – while similarly taking tips from the garage rock of The Velvet Underground and The Stooges. Uber-chic frontwoman Chloe is a budding Souxie Soux, fiercely spitting her vocals out ala the Banshees legend. ‘Tim and Joel’, meanwhile, provide the pulsating, edgy beats which are coloured by said voice.
Battant are currently gaining quite a name for themselves amid the trendy French scene and are signed to Parisian label, Kill the DJ (through which the band recently released their debut album). Alas, I think it’s time Battant started getting noticed a little more over here, so why not check out the band’s official video to ‘Radio Rod’, below –
