Bands to Watch #127: KASMS

By on Wednesday, 26th August 2009 at 4:00 pm

Kasms (side)Today we’d like to introduce KASMS, a Dalton-based quartet who’s ‘shriekbeat’ is seeing them gain quite a name for themselves throughout the underground circuit. While said genre is indeed an apt description of the band (since there are countless shrieks amid KASMS music), I’d prefer to describe them as frantic femme-punk, which explodes with all sorts of terrifying noises. Basically, KASMS are filled with lip curling attitude, and boy, don’t make for too comfortable listening.

Formed in October of 2007, the band hit the road just one month later, taking on a massive tour which has seemingly not stopped since. Live, KASMS are one massive frenzy. The band are fronted by the lightning bolt of energy that is Rachel Mary Callenghan, who is said to tear up the place during gigs (perhaps even spill coffee over audience’s heads). Former Test Icicles member, Rory Atwell, meanwhile, joins the lineup on guitar and drums. KASMS have already toured with the likes of The Gossip and Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, and next week, the band will be showcasing their anarchic selves on the BBC Introducing Stage at Reading and Leeds – so if you’re heading to the festival – catch them if you dare.

Meanwhile, why not watch KASMS’ official video to ‘Male Bonding’, below:
