Bands to Watch #134: Yes Giantess

Yes Giantess are a Boston quartet following in the footsteps of fellow Massachusetts inhabitants Passion Pit in making sickly-sweet, synthed out sounds. Digitalised to the eyeballs – the band are taking on that oh so popular genre of electro, and coating it in an extra sugary layer of super-pop fit for for the likes of JLS. Quite frankly, probably the one thing distinguishing this band from Justin Timberlake is the fact they wear skinny jeans and have shaggy manes.
Not that I’m putting the band down. Yes Giantess’ music bubbles with all sorts of quirky electrical beats, crunchy drums, and slick vocals – which, really, is all rather irresistible. Admittedly, the quartet are nothing to be took seriously, but hey, they make for fun listening, kinda like an audio version of Sonic the Hedgehog. So while the likes of The Temper Trap and Empire of the Sun are pulling electro up to a more serious note, Yes Giantess are sticking to their guns, creating a plethora of kooky, dancefloor-friendly tunes ala a cheesy Hot Chip.
NME like the band so much that they’ve recently invited them out on their Radar tour, which aims to showcase exciting upcoming artists to the indie-kid masses. Featuring alongside Yes Giantess include the likes of Golden Silvers, Marina and the Diamonds and Local Natives. You can grab tickets to the event, but first, why not check out Yes Giantess’ official MySpace page.
