Bands to Watch #142: Black Gold

Today, we’re taking a look at Brooklyn, New York’s Black Gold is formed by Panic At The Disco! keyboardist Eric Ronick, and they’ve just been touring with The Hold Steady and Scissor Sisters in America
They say:
Breathlessly experimental, the Brooklyn duo will try any genre once — MOR (“The Comedown”), MGMT falsetto funk (“Breakdown”), and sweeping orchestral rock (“Plans & Reveries”) — as long as it’s grafted to a dance beat and a big hook. It’s indecision disguised as diversity, and there are glitches, but nearly every song is a potential single begging for an extended disco edit.
Quite simply brilliant; melodic funky, delicate and thumping at points … perfect soundtrack to such gorgeous weather and the optimism I can feel in the air!

You can’t fail to like this lot. They’ve nicked Panic! at the Disco’s ability to write a brilliant pop song, catchy and unique, indie yet slightly emo at the same time. As Spin said above, they try most genres once, so in theory there should be something here for everyone.

Their debut album, Rush, is available now on Amazon. You can watch the video for the great single, Plans and Reveries below:
