In the Post #39: Young Rebel Set

Young Rebel Set are a seven-member-strong indie rock band from Stockton-on-Tees. In addition to obligatory guitars and drums, the piano figures prominently in their sound (yet they sound not one bit like Coldplay, phew). And there’s something incredibly honest in Matty Chipcase‘s voice that might make you want to tell him your deepest, darkest secrets. In short, I think there’s a lot to like about this septet from the Northeast.
For me, their latest single ‘Walk On’ evokes ‘No Soap (In a Dirty War)’ by Reverend and the Makers (tell me I’m not imagining things!) and the feel-good guitar rock of the Cribs. Check out the promo video for the song below.

The ‘Walk On’ digital single includes two B-sides: ‘Yorkshire Bank’, a tender ballad romanticising the very unromantic state of being skint, and ‘Borders’, a song that will likely inspire bar room singalongs and, should the band make it big, incite football stadium-style arm waves and shouts of “have a little more faith!”
Young Rebel Set’s single ‘Walk On’ will be released on the band’s own label, Our Broadcast, in the UK on 30 November.
