10 for 2010: #4 – Everything Everything

A couple of weeks back, we asked you to vote for your top 10 artists for 2010. We had almost 600 votes, and we’re now going to countdown the top 10 over the next 10 days, finishing with our number 1 on 10th December at midday. Today, at number 4, is Manchester’s Everything Everything.
Seriously – I need to hitch up and move to Manchester, like, ASAP. Why? Well, it would appear the place that gave us Joy Division, The Stones Roses and Oasis is having itself yet another musical revolution of late. For the past three weeks, I have introduced to you upcoming bands stemming from the City (Delphic, Dutch Uncles). Today I’d like to tell you about yet another Mancunian big-name in the making. Everything Everything are an exotic electronica quartet, who’s digitalised sounds bound with super weird time-signatures and uber groovy hooks that are strangely good-fun.
Everything Everything’s music is dangerously dance-inducing ala Friendly Fires’ carnival pop, just with more of an eclectic edge. After all, the quartet claim to be influenced by (dare to decipher?) “Les Beatles, Monsieur Kelly (r), Michele Jackson, Radiotete, Katherine Bush and Les Smiths”, to name just an intriguing few..
Frontman Jonathon Everything’s vocals are particularly creamy (*cough* Brendon Urie anyone?). Add to that Bon Iver-esque, near operatic harmonies and countless, unexpectedly thrilling tundras of noise (Bam! A crunky metal guitar riff! Pow! A Mario Kart synth line! Boom! Take that weeping piano!), and you have yourself exciting, and at times, super beautiful pop from a very interesting band indeed.
