MP3 of the Day #149: April Smith and the Great Picture Show

By on Wednesday, 10th February 2010 at 10:00 am

The process to get to the recording the April Smith and the Great Picture Show‘s debut album is one that will make the heartstrings twang. Without major label backing, Smith turned to her fans and asked for their monetary support, and that support came through – all US$13,000 of it – allowing for the financing of ‘Songs for a Sinking Ship’.

The track below, ‘Colors’, is a prime example of Smith’s winsome attitude that runs throughout the album. This is a woman who has emotions and opinions and isn’t afraid to show them. Also below is a live acoustic version taped in 2008. Have a listen and watch and tell us what you think.
