MP3 of the Day #150: Petter and the Pix

By on Thursday, 18th February 2010 at 10:00 am

Petter and the Pix is the story of two brothers, Petter and Pontus, and two very different paths. Pontus is one half of the songwriting super-force Bloodshy& Avant (responsible for Britney’s ‘Toxic’). Petter, by way of contrast, once formed part of Iceland’s first ever reggae act, Hjallar. Petter recruited a new band, The Pix, bringing together members from Mum, Gusgus, and Lykke Li (they’re currently the touring band for Pontus’ latest project, Miike Snow).

Across the record, there’s Brian Wilson harmonies, dashes of Afrobeat, and a strong folk element which should appeal to Mumford fans. But tracks like ‘Momentarily Lost’ have the kind of emotional charge and orchestration more reminiscent of early Arcade Fire. In other words, there’s no ‘Toxic’, but there doesn’t need to be.
