MP3 of the Day #170: The Violet May

Hey get this, you know that smoking guy who graced the Arctic Monkey’s debut album so many years ago? Well now he’s fronting his own band, The Violet May. Their free downloadable track, “Queen Teen” sounds nothing like that post-punk band from Sheffield, even though sprouted from the same region.

So roll up Jesus and Mary Chain/ Verve fans, here’s some shoegazing to the extreme for you. Loud, bold and very in your face, “Queen Teen” provides a fine introductory song to this five piece band who are quickly garnering a well earned reputation for putting on a “raukus live show”. Even in a recorded setting, this is a beastly tune that will no doubt make you realize that such an aggressive and raw tune has the power of warhead explosions in live setting. Oh, and chances are that the provided trivia about the Arctic Monkeys will quickly fade as the band continue to conquer global venues.
