Video of the Moment #303: The Federals

Awww…there’s nothing like a raw, dirty rock ‘n’ roll song now and then. And my god, The Federals deliver the filth. This York-based quartet have a single, “Ain’t Got Nothing To Lose”, circulating across the airwaves, with several listeners becoming infected by the band’s guitar fever and lyrical swagger.
What starts off with a Feeder/Oasis like guitar riff soon dives into an immense pool of something akin to White Stripes and Black Rebel Motercycle Club. The scratchy throated vocals by Jim Feakes (“take a look at yourself now as you spread your disease”)” blends in with the soaring rhythms, all while the Kasabian-esque backing vocals go swimmingly with the overall piece. All told, it’s one hell of splash.
The search for a solid “tuuuuunnnnne” in the world of rock has at last been discovered. More good news is that an increasing amount of music types are beginning to catch on, from the likes of Steve Lamacq to performing on the BBC introducing stage at Glastonbury. Expect the casual listener to become an avid fan of The Federals soon.
