Single Review: Gold Fields – Treehouse

Australia’s Gold Fields will be releasing their debut single through Britain’s Young and Lost Club label next week. The band recently supported the hotly-tipped Naked and Famous from New Zealand.
Like the Cut Copy single I reviewed last week, this also has a ’80s vibe. But unlike that other single, I actually really, really like this one. It has the wide-eyed wonderment of ABC yet manages to sound original. According to the band’s Bandcamp Web site, “This was recorded in our bedroom.” Oh really. Well, this is one of those cases where the magic is definitely happening back in the bedroom. (Bad joke, I know.)
But seriously, I can totally see people bopping up and down to the sweet rhythms of this track when they play at Big Day Out in January. What a fun tune. And this band is keeping themselves busy – Gold Fields will also be touring with Crystal Castles that month as well. Summer European festival circuit? I’m thinking it’s a definite possibility.

‘Treehouse’ is out on 06 December on Young and Lost Club.
