In the Post #67: Young the Giant

Words by Braden Fletcher

Young the Giant seem like every other band. They’ve got the traditional five-piece line-up, a fairly standard ‘look’ and haven’t really done much you would have heard about. Another for the indie-rock landfill you might think. Not at all! This Californian group may seem like every other band, that is, until you press play on their eponymous debut album. The music just exudes positive energy from start to finish. They sound like their homeland in Orange County got struck by rock ‘n’ roll.

A little taster from their album comes in the form of the track ‘Strings’. It’s one of the more laid-back tracks from the album and for me, in the cold outreaches of South London, this track makes me beg for sunshine again. Sameer Gadhia has an almost Paolo Nutini-esque style to his voice without sounding pop, it really is something fantastic to hear. Listen to it below.

Young the Giant are playing several gigs in London starting on Friday at Koko. More details on their ‘tour’ are here on TGTF.
