MP3 of the Day #360: Fitz and the Tantrums

If you’re in America and flipping around American music channels to look for “the next big thing” like me, it’s kind of hard to avoid Los Angeles neo-soulsters Fitz and the Tantrums. Neo-anything bands tend to be gimmicky, but for some reason, I don’t get that feeling from this band at all. What I do get: a very classic, warm sound with great Motown-era vocals. Dangerbird is their label at home (counting recent signing Beady Eye and Delphic as labelmates; to my knowledge, they aren’t signed in the UK – yet).

Like Lissie, the Script, La Roux and Mumford and Sons before them, they’ve been featured as a VH1 You Oughta Know artist, so they’re heading for stardom in the U.S. If you’ve somehow missed their high energy track ‘Moneygrabber’, this free download of ‘Don’t Gotta Work It Out’ bottles their live charisma perfectly.
