Single Review: Enter Shikari – Sssnakepit

Since Enter Shikari‘s 2009 album ‘Common Dreads’, the St. Albans crew have been steadily releasing a string of singles to keep their fans’ bursting with anticipation for the eventual third album. Unfortunately, none of the singles were a part of the as yet untitled LP, but that has just changed.

Entitled ‘Sssnakepit’, Enter Shikari have announced this is to be the first single from their upcoming album tipped for release early next year. Starting with some drum ‘n’ bass beats to get the heart pumping, it kicks into metallic guitars and Rou’s signature scream. Using gang vocals throughout, it’s a party anthem in the making. The lyrics too are in the same vein as ‘Common Dreads’ with their political tinge and rallying of the troops: “When the weight of all the world is pushing down, just push right back!”.

The bouncy chorus, the post-hardcore thrashings of the guitars and the relentless drumming are all what make ‘Sssnakepit’ a great appetiser for the band’s upcoming album. Keeping the same synth-laden punk ethos but now with added partying and jungle beats, there’s still something innovative and entertaining by a band who are still destined to only get bigger.

The ‘Sssnakepit’ single from Enter Shikari is available now from iTunes.
