Live Photos: Arctic Monkeys at Newcastle Metro Radio Arena – 5th November 2011

The Arctic Monkeys played a sell-out crowd Saturday night at the Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle upon Tyne. The biggest sartorial surprise of the evening was frontman Alex Turner’s transformation from laddish mod to 1950s rocker. Gone is the pudding-bowl haircut and granddad shirt, in comes a full greased quiff and leather biker jacket. Quite a shock initially, it turns out the look suits him, and indeed suits the harder edge to their latest music. Guitarist Jamie Cook tones down the look with just a hint of quiff. Bassist Nick O’Malley chooses the ’80s to be his decade of influence, with a T-shirt in tribute to the late, great Patrick Swayze in so-bad-it’s-good vigilante movie Road House. And P. Diddy’s best mate drummer Matt Helders keeps things loyal with a simple black Arctics T-shirt.
