J-Dilla Changed My Life Charity Gigs / February 2012

By on Thursday, 2nd February 2012 at 8:30 am

This weekend (yes, it starts tomorrow night, in case you haven’t noticed!) sees a trio of charity gigs in memory of the late, great hip hop producer J-Dilla who passed away in 2006 at age 32 from lupus-related complications. The three events – happening in Manchester, Brighton and London this weekend – will raise money for the J-Dilla Foundation, founded to help fund inner-city music programs and provide scholarships to high-achieving music students, and Lupus UK, the only national registered charity in the UK supporting people with systemic lupus and discoid lupus and assisting those approaching diagnosis. Special appearances will include Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey (J-Dilla’s very own Mum) and host Phat Kat (Welcome to Detroit), and some of the talent gracing the decks will include Manchester’s own Mr. Scruff, Spin Doctor, Mr. Thing, Sarah Love, Harry Love, Morgan Spacek, Kutmah and DJ LOK, plus many more.

Note: there are three separate events, I just had the image for the Manchester one handy and stuck it on this post. A minimum £5 (Brighton) or £6 donation is requested for advance tickets, with tickets at the door slightly higher. Help these worthy charities by coming out and showing your support; for more information on the events, please visit the Doctor’s Orders events page.

Friday 3rd February 2012 – Manchester Ruby Lounge
Saturday 4th February 2012 – Brighton Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar
Sunday 5th February 2012 – London Scala
