(Jubilee Weekend Guilty Pleasure!) Video of the Moment #818: Information Society

Editor’s note: do not adjust your screen. Yes, we’re airing some of our (and some of your!) favourite song guilty pleasures in video form this Jubilee weekend. The bands were featuring are largely not the kind we write about here on TGTF, but we wanted to do something new and cool over this 4-day weekend. Come along for the crazy ride and enjoy.
What do a couple of guys from Minneapolis know about dance? Apparently, Information Society know a lot. The fact that they’re still going after all these years is pretty amazing. But their star all started with this one, ‘Pure Energy’. I was going through my old singles and forgot I had a load of this song’s remixes. In a then very unusual cardboard single case. Wonder if it’s worth anything?
With all the colours and faux instruments made of cardboard, this video is so ’80s, it’s not even funny. The song also features a sample of Leonard Nimoy as Mr. Spock uttering the title “pure energy”. If you want to know where my love for dance comes from, this is probably it.
