Video of the Moment #1597: alt-J

Okay, well I can surely say I never saw this coming. Cambridge-based alt-J, who have so far made their career on left of centre-sounding records including the previously revealed single ‘Hunger of the Pine’ (video here), have released a more straight-forward and certainly more obvious Radio 1 song in ‘Left Hand Free’. Even the video has a mainstream feel uncharacteristic for the band, as it looks more like an advert for Urban Outfitters than any of their past promos.
Is this a sign that the band, now a trio following founding member Gwil Sainsbury’s amicable departure this past January, have gone in another direction entirely? Definitely food for thought ahead of the release of ‘This is All Yours’, the group’s second album, out on the 22nd of September on Infectious Music.
Previous TGTF coverage on alt-J is here.
