Video of the Moment #2213: Blaenavon

By on Tuesday, 1st November 2016 at 6:00 pm

There’s exciting news coming out of the camp of East Hampshire trio Blaenavon. They’ve announced they’re now signed in America to Canvasback / Atlantic Records, which also has alt-J and Frightened Rabbit on their roster. So they’re in good company.

Their first release on both sides of the Atlantic (no pun intended) is ‘My Bark is Your Bite’, already championed by both Huw Stephens and Annie Mac of BBC Radio 1. It’s got a promo video that’s been revealed now, directed by actor Craig Roberts (Submarine, Skins, Kill Your Friends), filmed in one shot in an abandoned building in Cardiff. That explains the dilapidated, vaguely sinister location for the proceedings. Roberts has some arguments for the why and where for the video shoot:

We’d been talking about collaborating with each other for a while and I’m pleased we managed to make it work as I love Blaenavon’s music. There were two ways of going with this video, whilst the song is so vibrant I also found it very dark – this felt like a great opportunity to do something really cool, and weird. I’d filmed in one-shot before and feel it adds real cinematic quality, it’s nice tying together narrative and performance in one continuous move. The boys came over to Cardiff to shoot the video which was important to me – and not least because it’s close to my house and I could play X-Box straight after.

Watch the video below, which was probably more appropriate yesterday on Halloween. For more on Blaenavon, you can check out this link that will take you through our archive on them.
