Video of the Moment #2268: Tom Chaplin

In case you’ve been living under a rock, or indeed, you don’t follow me on Twitter (ha!), Keane lead singer Tom Chaplin has released his debut solo record. While ‘The Wave’ has been available since mid-October in the UK and Europe, North Americans had to wait for its Arts and Crafts release 2 Fridays ago. He’s set to perform in Montreal at Le Lion D’or tonight, continuing on until the 3rd of February in San Francisco, after which time he’ll take a month off before a European tour.

Chaplin’s video for the opening track of ‘The Wave’, the promo video ‘Still Waiting’ was released this time last week, but I somehow missed it in the politicking and the pre-show preparation of seeing him live in DC. To make up for my egregious error, I wanted to feature the video directed by Kevin Godley tonight, the first full workday after you-know-who was sworn in as our President. As mentioned in the conclusion of my interview feature with Tom last October, the overarching message in ‘The Wave’ is one of hope. The way the world is going these days, we could use plenty of it. Although the intent of this video for ‘Still Waiting’ was to create a feeling of disorientation and claustrophobia, we all know that Tom survived and came back from addiction and if that doesn’t give you hope, I don’t know what will. Watch it below. To have a read of our growing archive of articles on Tom Chaplin, use this link.
