Video of the Moment #2460: Julia Jacklin

By on Thursday, 26th October 2017 at 6:00 pm

Aussie singer/songwriter Julia Jacklin released new material last month. The double-A-sided single ‘Eastwick’/’Cold Caller’ follows the Transgressive Records signee’s debut album ‘Don’t Let the Kids Win’, which dropped in late 2016. We featured the video for ‘Eastwick’ here on TGTF near the start of summer; Jacklin is now ready to share the promo for ‘Cold Caller’. The actual premise for the video is simple: Jacklin wanted to dance in front of a dance studio’s room-length mirror and enjoy herself. She explains:

“Over my 5 years of dancing training I accumulated about 4 dance moves, which have all been utilised in this clip. You could say it all started here in this dance studio in my hometown Springwood where beginning at the age of 11, I laboured and then learned that I was not going to be a professional dancer. Nevertheless for those 5 years I did my best; tap danced at a casino in a high vis one-piece to ‘Working Class Man’, waved my arms repeatedly around at an event held in a McDonalds car park to Enya’s ‘Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)’, crammed my pre-pubescent body into silver hot pants for Pink’s ‘Get this Party Started’. It’s still my favourite thing to do, and this song is about something worrying but also something incredibly joyful and all I could think to do to express that was to dance.”

Watch the promo video for ‘Cold Caller’ below. The 7″ of ‘Eastwick’/’Cold Caller’ is out now on Transgressive Records. The UK leg of Jacklin’s international tour begins on the 2nd of November at Portsmouth Wedgwood Rooms and ends on the 9th at London Shepherds Bush Empire. The American leg will follow, starting on the 13th of November at Rough Trade in Brooklyn, concluding at the Echo in Los Angeles on the 21st, before Jacklin returns home for the travelling Falls Festival from the end of December into early January in Oz.
