Video of the Moment #543: Baby Monster

What is the video for Baby Monster‘s ‘The Rise of Charlie Sunrise’ about? You tell us. To me, it’s chronicling a day in the life of a pre-teen Lykke Li. Watch it below and see if you agree. The song is taken from the band’s self-titled debut album, released in late June.

Baby Monster‘s self-titled debut album is out today. If you’re on the fence on whether to get it, why not hear and download the track ‘Fresh Biscuits’ below? The synth arpeggio intro? Lovely. Forget Foster the People. This is way better.

Baby Monster will be releasing their self-titled debut album on 27 June. Ahead of that, they’re giving away album track ‘The Fear of Charlie Sunrise’.

TGTF founder Phil once described the Oregon duo as “MGMT for the goth crowd”: if you haven’t listened to them before, have a go with the song below and let us know what you think about it!

MP3 of the Day #148: Baby Monster

Everyone loved MGMT last summer – trippy but pop tastic, Baby Monster are like MGMT for the goth crowd – still poppy but so much darker. Layered synths that could fill a stadium, dis-embodied voices that would creep out the most sane of people, and a beat that will have you at least moving your hips a bit.

We’ve just been cleared to post this fantastic new single that’s going to be coming out on March 29th on Big Stereo.net’s new record label as a 7″. It’s a fantastic pop song, one you should download NOW and listen to and love.

MP3 of the Day #117: Baby Monster remixes

Baby Monster‘s new single, Ultra Violence And Beethoven, comes out next Monday and to celebrate they’ve given us a duo of remixes of the tracks, both with very different vibes – the Arveene & Misk version is typically club friendly, whilst the Mondkopf version is my favourite, a bit darker and bigger, the soundtrack to a late night Skins-style party. Download both and the main single below.

They were kind enough to answer a few questions from us…

Hello Baby Monster. What are you up today?
hi. we are looking for a place to stay in NYC and also finishing an ellie goulding remix.

Where did you get the name, Baby Monster from? It sounds like the sort of name that has a great story behind it…
We have a friend who paints these crazy paintings that depict his dreams and one of the characters he created was “The Baby Monster” which sipped Budweiser and controlled our friend’s mind..Its a great painting.

What do you love about Eugene and Oregon, and what do you dislike about it?
Lots of creative people, artists, university small town atmosphere. It’s also quiet, dark and rainy you are left to your own devices..

You’ve worked with some great artists recently – who have been your personal favourites?
Wolf Gang and Zero 7. We’ve been listening to Zero 7 for a long time so it was pretty cool to get to remix one of their tracks.

How are you feeling about your live debut next week at CMJ? Nervous?
Our live debut was actually at a bowling alley in east LA in front of two 45 year old mexican ladies. We are pretty excited to be going back to NYC, it is a little unnerving.

We’re five years down the line. Baby Monster are huge, they sell out arenas. What is the Baby Monster live experience like?
We’ll have muppets playing in place of us. Maybe holograms. We’ll be sitting at home in the Eug. watching a movie while our holograms are out performing on a world tour.

What would be a cool location you’d like to do a gig at?
Southtowne Lanes Bowling Alley in Eugene, OR

Finally, what music, books and TV / films are you really enjoying at the moment?
Listening to: The Blimp, Black Uhuru, Air, The Four Tops
Reading: Valis by Horselover Fat, The Fingerprints of the gods, “You Can’t Win” by Jack Black (not the actor)
