Live Gig Video: alt-J perform acoustic version of ‘Matilda’ for Bands in Transit

By on Monday, 26th November 2012 at 4:00 pm

Bands in Transit recently caught up with the 2012 Mercury Prize-winning alt-J to record this stripped back, acoustic video. ‘Matilda’ was most everyone’s first taste of the Cambridge band (it certainly was mine), watch the performance below.

Earlier this month we posted the “new” video for ‘Fitzpleasure’.

Live Gig Video: Josh Kumra performs ‘Helicopters and Planes’ for Bands in Transit

By on Thursday, 16th August 2012 at 4:00 pm

Singer/songwriter Josh Kumra was filmed earlier this year performing this acoustic version of ‘Helicopters and Planes’ by the fine folks of Bands in Transit in the seaside town of Brighton, and you can watch that performance below.

‘Helicopters and Planes’ is Kumra’s debut single on Sony RCA and is out now.

Live Gig Video: Friends perform ‘I’m His Girl’ for Bands in Transit at the Great Escape 2012 in Brighton

By on Thursday, 21st June 2012 at 4:00 pm

Brooklyn ‘it’ band Friends took the time out of their busy schedule in Brighton at this year’s Great Escape to perform the hit that broke them, ‘I’m His Girl’, for Bands in Transit. Not sure what is going on with Stephanie Urbani’s, um, style of dress, but watch it below and form your own opinion.

The band just released their debut album, ‘Manifest!’, on Lucky Number, and you can read Tom’s review of the album here.

Live Gig Video: Mystery Jets perform ‘Greatest Hits’ and ‘Hale Bop’ for Bands in Transit at the Great Escape 2012 in Brighton

By on Thursday, 7th June 2012 at 4:00 pm

Mystery Jets were one of the hottest tickets in town at the Great Escape this year, with the Corn Exchange even shutting me out on the Thursday as they went delegate queue-less.

But all is not lost. The band – minus bassist Kai Fish, who has since left the group – performed two songs from their new album ‘Radlands’, ‘Greatest Hits’ and ‘Hale Bop’, for Bands in Transit. Evidently, this was filmed on the Friday as there’s a bright blue sky framing that Union Jack fluttering in the wind in this video. Enjoy it below.

My review of and more video from their performance at the Academy of Arts at Liverpool Sound City will premiere on TGTF soon.

Live Gig Video: Niki and the Dove perform ‘The Drummer’ for Bands in Transit at the Great Escape 2012 in Brighton

By on Tuesday, 22nd May 2012 at 4:00 pm

Stockholm band Niki and the Dove was one of the hottest commodities at the Great Escape this year and I’ll admit, I didn’t bother with the queue at Horatio’s on the pier on Thursday night because I figured I’d never get in. (Bad luck, as they ended up cancelling their appearance at Sound City due to illness.) But for me and anyone else who couldn’t be there at the Great Escape this year, we’ve got you covered.

The fine folks at Bands in Transit got the band to perform ‘The Drummer’ on the seafront. You can tell from the wet sidewalk that it was raining quite a bit in Brighton this year, but thankfully the rain held off for this taping. Enjoy it below.

Live Gig Video: Bombay Bicycle Club perform ‘Shuffle’ for Bands in Transit

By on Thursday, 29th March 2012 at 4:00 pm

How did I miss this one? File this under “old but still good”. Bands in Transit brings you this acoustic-y performance by Bombay Bicycle Club of their summer 2011 hit ‘Shuffle’. Guess Jack Steadman and co. are on the brain after seeing them sell out 9:30 Club earlier this month… I can practically hear the squealing girls watching this now…
