Video of the Moment #2267: BANKS

By on Friday, 20th January 2017 at 6:00 pm

Californian singer/songwriter BANKS released her second album last September. ‘The Altar’, the long-awaited follow-up to 2014’s ‘The Goddess’, was expected to be a wee bit different based on its earliest released songs including ‘Gemini Feed’. We featured the promo to ‘Gemini Feed’ in late summer as a Video of the Moment here.

In her latest video for ‘Trainwreck’, there’s a lot of strange things afoot here. For one, BANKS has a trio of bald, masked men filming her, but for what? Eating hard-boiled eggs has never been weirder, for sure. Watch it below. You can get ‘The Altar’ for your very own from Harvest Records now. For more of TGTF’s coverage on the artist, go here.

Video of the Moment #2163: BANKS

By on Wednesday, 17th August 2016 at 6:00 pm

Soulful Californian singer/songwriter BANKS is gearing up to release her second album, the successor to 2014’s ‘Goddess’, at the end of September. So what do we know so far about ‘The Altar’? Tim Anderson (Lykke Li, Best Coast) and Al Shux (Lana Del Rey, Tinie Tempah) were on production duties, both of whom collaborated with the young artist on tracks appearing on her debut album. The first single unveiled from the new album has a title with a not so family-friendly word, so I won’t repeat it here.

This second one, ‘Gemini Feed’, is far more palatable and yet it seems that BANKS has purposefully made a controversial video. While it’s certainly tame by rap video standards, I wasn’t expecting these scenes of quasi-serious bondage. I’m sure there’s some artistic reason behind these visuals, but I haven’t quite sussed this out yet. Watch the video for ‘Gemini Feed’ below. ‘The Altar’ drops on the 30th of September on Virgin EMI (UK) and Harvest Records (America). For more on BANKS on TGTF, go here.

MP3 of the Day #836: BANKS

By on Wednesday, 25th June 2014 at 10:00 am

BANKS isn’t usually my thing, but this time I took a magnifying glass to one of her remixes and turned the volume up.

The profile of Glass Animals, who were one of Martin’s SXSW 2014 Bands to Watch, has grown by leaps and bounds since I caught their live show at Liverpool Sound City 2014 in May and the release of debut album ‘Zaba’ earlier this month. With a wealth of staccatoed percussive beats and wicked flute interludes, Glass Animals‘ frontman Dave Bayley adds an unexpected groove to the otherwise breathy and pretty minimal original of new song ‘Drowning’. Listen to both BANKS’ original and the remix below and if you like the remix, it’s yours free in exchange for your email address.
