Video of the Moment #2126: Blood Orange

By on Wednesday, 29th June 2016 at 6:00 pm

Dev Hynes, better known these days under the colourful moniker Blood Orange, surprised everyone this week by releasing his latest album ‘Freetown Sound’ early. To celebrate its fortuitous unveiling, he has also revealed the video to album track ‘Augustine’. The new video suggests this new album is ready and waiting to be the soundtrack to your summer. Having moments of both dance beat funk and wistful yearning dream pop, it’s an interesting introduction to his new album. ‘Freetown Sound’ is now available from Domino Records. For more on Dev Hynes’ artistic pursuits on TGTF, you can check out our archives on Blood Orange and Lightspeed Champion.

Video of the Moment #1543: Blood Orange

Dev Hynes’ solo project Blood Orange now has a new music video. Gia Coppola, granddaughter of famed filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, is a director in her own right and recently collaborated with Hynes on a film based on Palo Alto, a book by actor James Franco (Hynes scored the music). The promo for ‘You’re Not Good Enough’ fits its ’80s synthesiser groove, starring Fame-like dancers and a surprise appearance by Friends‘ Samantha Urbani. (Well, I suppose it’s not a huge surprise, given that Hynes remixed Friends track ‘The Way’ last year.) The song appears on the Blood Orange album ‘Cupid Deluxe’, out now. Watch the video below.

Poor Dev Hynes (aka in his current moniker of choice, Blood Orange). He can never seem to catch a break when it comes to relationships. Take, for example, the new promo for ‘I’m Sorry We Lied’, filmed over 3 days in the City of Angels. That should have been the first clue something was wrong… Watch it below.
