Newcastle quartet and TGTF favourites Boy Jumps Ship have donned their holiday jumpers for a zany new Christmas video. Their cover of ‘All Alone on Christmas’, originally sung by Darlene Love for the film soundtrack ‘Home Alone 2: Lost in New York’, is fairly true to the familiar version written by Steve Van Zandt and backed by the famous E Street Band, but predictably, it leans more toward laid-back guitar rock than rapturous gospel vocals. It’s hard to say whether the Boy Jumps Ship lads might have had more fun recording the track or re-enacting the scenes from ‘Home Alone 2’ in their promo video. Either way, this will be sure to put you in the mood for hot cocoa and classic Christmas movies.

Ahead of a new release in the first month of 2016, Newcastle’s Boy Jumps Ship have a new music video out this week. ‘Burn’, which will be released as a single in its own right on the 29th of January, is their latest new material to be unveiled to the public. The song and its promo seems perfect to see this year out. The visuals directed by the band’s friend Ollie Rillands are full of fire and passion, as are the lyrics, reminding us all that “time is gone so don’t look back”: we only have our one life to live, so live it to the fullest and make it count. We may have been through some dark days this year, but ‘Burn’ is here to be incredibly inspiring: “old your head up high, you’re still young so you can try. We’re just getting by, closer to the finish line.”
Frontman of Boy Jumps Ship Si Todd has been kind enough to provide me with the full lyrics to share with you, and I encourage you to read them along with watching their awesome new video. I’m sure the Geordie lads will be back on the road in 2016 soon enough, as their debut album, now in the can, is scheduled for release in the new year. Wey aye, man! (Be thankful I’m coming to you through a computer screen and not hearing my terrible excuse for a Geordie accent, ha.)
==
The TV’s playing loud but you’re not making sense
The money’s drying out the kids have no respect
We’ll rip your heart out when we find out who you are
But when it’s dark out you don’t stand out from the crowd
(Time is gone so don’t look back, play your part it’s all you have…)
Burn! When I light ’em up.
If you’re not feeling we’re not bleeding all alone.
So when I Burn! When I light ’em up.
If you’re stealing we’re not healing all alone.
Your time is running out the streets are in a mess, forget your promises they’re wrapped around our necks.
So hold your head up high, you’re still young so you can try. We’re just getting by, closer to the finish line.
Burn! Light ’em up.
If you’re not feeling we’re not bleeding all alone.
Burn! When I light ’em up (hold your, hold your, hold your head up high)
If you’re stealing we’re not healing all alone (we’re just, we’re just, we’re just getting by)

Newcastle’s Boy Jumps Ship have shared this live acoustic performance they filmed at this year’s Sonisphere for Gibson Guitars; it stars lead guitarist Jonathan Douglas and frontman/guitarist Si Todd. ‘Still Alive’ features on the band’s ‘Lovers & Fighters’ EP released in June and out now on Rude Records. (Read my review of the EP here.) Watch the performance below.
