If you were worried that things had gone south when Zane Lowe presented his final episode of MTV Gonzo in April, have no fear, the series is back and it’s Friday night, all right! And with a new host, Alexa Chung.
Alexa will be welcoming some pretty big names to the famous couch tonight. Carl Barat will no doubt be coming along to talk about his new debut album just released on 04 October. From the goss we’ve heard, Carl said he likes the show so much that he’d love to work on it if he wasn’t making music.
Kings of Leon will also make an appearance just prior to their fifth studio album, ‘Come Around Sundown’, being released on Monday (18 October). Additional guests include Professor Green, who touched off a wee flame war with Kate Nash and Cribs fans on Twitter yesterday, and Manchester’s Ting Tings, who have returned to the music scene with a catchy new single, ‘Hands’.
Watch the new MTV Gonzo featuring Alexa Chung as presenter tonight at 7 pm on MTV Rocks, with a repeat at 9 pm on MTV.

The elephant in the room for this year’s Reading/Leeds? The return of the Libertines in their original line-up.
What should be receiving much more fanfare than it is currently: Carl Barat‘s upcoming solo release. ‘Run with the Boys’, our first taster of the new material, got its debut as Zane Lowe’s Hottest Record in the World Monday night on Radio1.
During the DPT days I used to moan – a lot – about the people who were stuck in the Libertines days, because Carl had moved on and was making different music. I dearly loved the Libertines and Dirty Pretty Things and I appreciate Carl as an excellent musician and a great singer/songwriter, but I’m really not sure where he was trying to go with this song.
My impression? He’s making different music all right. But the horns seem superfluous. Judging from his previous work in his other bands, they’re unnecessary. He knows how to construct a good rock ‘n’ roll song. But here, there’s no obvious hook, it sounds phoned in. Disappointed. I’m hoping this is the weakest link on the debut album.
You can listen to the song and Zane Lowe chatting with Barat on iPlayer here until next Monday (30 August). I would be curious to see what other people think.
‘Run with the Boys’, the debut solo single from Carl Barat, and his full self-titled debut album will both be released on 4 October. He goes on tour in the UK in October.
Libertines man Carl Barat has announced the first details of his as-yet-untitled solo album, and with it a tour to boot.
