WIN / VIP Tix to cocknbullkid last.fm gig at London Garage, 7th October

By on Tuesday, 27th September 2011 at 11:00 am

The nice folks at audioscrobbling site last.fm are putting on a unique series of ‘Last.fm Presents Live Friday’ gigs to take place at London Garage on the first Friday of the month. Why are these gigs so unique? The artists who are chosen to play are determined by the last.fm hype charts, so therefore the bills are contingent on which last.fm listeners have been listening to. Democracy in action, I say!

In the coming weeks, we’ll be giving you a chance to win something very exciting: a pair of VIP tickets to the next gig. VIP tickets can’t be bought, so please know that if you are the lucky winner, you are in for something special indeed. This first contest is for the 7th of October gig, starring headliner cocknbullkid. Anita Blay will be joined by opening acts Jess Mills and I am Harlequin. More details about this gig are available here from last.fm.

So you’re probably wondering how you can bag this pair of VIP tickets. First, enter your name and email address on the form below. We’ll use these bits to contact you if you’ve won. Then answer correctly this question: what was the name of Anita’s debut album, released in 2011? We’ll pick the winner out of all the correct entries we receive. Simple, yes? Be sure to get your entries in before 5 PM British time on Monday the 3rd of October, because that’s when the contest will be closed. Good luck everyone!

If you’d prefer to buy tickets to this event, go here. Tickets are £10 plus shipping/handling fees.

This contest is now closed and the winner will be contacted soon.

Video of the Moment #514: cocknbullkid

The next single from cocknbullkid will be ‘Yellow’, to be released on the 8th of August on Moshi Moshi / Island. I don’t like it as much as ‘Asthma Attack’ (video here) – it kind of reminds me of Natasha Bedingfield for some reason? – and it kind of has cheesy dance moves. But have a watch of the promo video below and see for yourself.

“London, I love you, but you’re bringing me down / in that special way that only you know how.” Those are the opening words of cocknbullkid‘s new video for her song ‘Asthma Attack’. Thinking this has to be a semi-veiled allusion to liking someone that you know is all wrong for you and the fact that you need that person to breathe. (“The first one I lost my heart to” ???) Your thoughts?

“La la la la la la la la la London”, indeed.

MP3 of the Day (and more!) #303: Wolf Gang

By on Tuesday, 8th March 2011 at 10:00 am

Wolf Gang‘s tune ‘Dancing with the Devil’ get the hip hop treatment in this remix by the Shoes featuring cocknbullkid and Mz Brat. The beats make the track sexy. Nice one.

You can also watch the new video for ‘Dancing with the Devil’ below (the original single to be released the 21st of March). Hmm. I wasn’t a fan of this song right away as I was with ‘Lions in Cages’, and to be honest, I like the hip hop remix better. This promo, in stark contrast to the video for ‘Lions in Cages’, is a performance video. In multiple senses of the term. You’ll see what I mean when you watch it below.

Camden Crawl 2011 will be taking place right smack dab up against the royal nuptials, but judging from the line-up, the organisers are taking this in their stride. The initial evening line-up announcement was made earlier this week, with St. Etienne, Toddla T, Hadouken, the Kings Blues and Villagers (pictured above) revealed as headliners. Bands championed by TGTF including Frankie and the Heartstrings, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Johnny Foreigner, Little Comets, cocknbullkid and Dinosaur Pile-Up are also scheduled to appear.

Early bird and VIP weekend tickets are now sold out, but a weekend ticket is available for £63.50 not including booking and transaction fees and Saturday or Sunday single tickets are £39.50 not including booking and transaction fees. They can be purchased online here or at selected HMV stores around the UK, more details here.

Anita Blay, aka cocknbullkid, has released a video for her next single, ‘Hold on to Your Misery’. Despite its seemingly down title, it’s an upbeat tune about being positive. And we all need a dash of positivity in our lives, every day.

‘Hold on to Your Misery’ by cocknbullkid will be released on the 5th of March on Moshi Moshi/Island. Her debut album ‘Adulthood’ is also on the horizon; it’s scheduled to be released in April.
