WIN / Tickets to see Stornoway at Manchester Academy, 4 March 2017

By on Wednesday, 22nd February 2017 at 10:00 am

To say we were really sad to hear that the originally Oxford-based Stornoway will be no more in a few weeks is the understatement of the year. TGTF are massive fans of the group and although we know they each be moving on to greener pastures, we can’t help but feel a bit melancholy. There are probably many of you reading this who feel the same exact way. In an attempt to help you get through this difficult time, I’ve blagged two pairs of tickets from our mates at Gigs and Tours so two readers can go see the group live on their Farewell Tour (sob!) when their tour bus rolls into Manchester on Saturday, the 4th of March. How do you win them for you and a lucky guest? I’m so glad you asked!

You’ll need to fill out the form at the bottom of this post completely, including providing us your full name and your email address so we have a way to contact you if you win. Then to be in for the lucky draw, you’ll need the correct answer to this question about Stornoway’s discography: What is the name of the band’s most recent studio album? Hint: psst, it’s the name of a bird.

From all the correct entries, we’ll choose two lucky winners at random to be our guest at their show at Manchester Academy on the 4th of March. Be sure to get your entry in before the contest closes this Friday, the 24th of February, at 5 PM UK time. Any duplicate or incomplete entries will be discarded; this contest is open only to UK residents. Please also note that there are age restrictions at the Academy: under 14s must be accompanied by an adult 18 years of age or older at all times. Good luck to all! In case you want to buy tickets to tickets to their tour that begins next Monday in Gateshead, check out Carrie’s tour date post through here. This contest is now closed. The winners will be contacted by email.

WIN / Tickets to see MiC LOWRY at Birmingham Institute, 19th February 2017

By on Tuesday, 10th January 2017 at 11:00 am

To say we’ve known about MiC LOWRY, most likely for a period of time much longer than you, is probably an understatement. Our then North East correspondent and head photographer Martin Sharman discovered their soulful harmonies when they performed at the delegates party at the Epstein Theatre the first night of Liverpool Sound City 2013. Fast forward a good 3, nearly 4 years, and the band are ready to go out on another tour of the UK next month.

Mic LOWRY, way back when

The kind folks at Gigs and Tours have offered up a pair of tickets to the Birmingham date of said UK tour of the vocal harmony group. It’ll be at the Institute on the 19th of February, and all you have to do to put yourself in the running is to fill out the form located at the bottom of this post. It couldn’t be easier: all we need are your name, your email address (to contact you if you win) and your argument on why we should give you these tickets. From all the entries, we’ll choose a lucky winner. Be quick, as we’re closing the contest Friday at 5 PM UK time. Got it? Good. And good luck! To read more on MiC LOWRY on TGTF, go here.

Thursday 16th February 2017 – Glasgow ABC2
Saturday 18th February 2017 – Liverpool Academy
Sunday 19th February 2017 – Birmingham Institute
Monday 20th February 2017 – London Koko

This contest is now closed. The winner will be contacted soon by email.

WIN / Tickets to see Barenaked Ladies in Bournemouth, Liverpool -OR- Cambridge in September

By on Monday, 25th July 2016 at 10:00 am

If you were a child of the ’90s and recognise the band in the photo up top as they were back then in those days – or indeed, simply have a penchant for funny, chirpy, tuneful pop – you’re probably a fan of Barenaked Ladies. In May, they released the live album ‘BNL Rocks Red Rocks!’, recorded at the iconic outdoor venue in Colorado. To support this release, they’ve announced a series of live dates in the UK in September.

Thanks to our friends at Gigs and Tours, we have some tickets to this tour to give away. To be exact, we’ve got a pair of tickets each to their announced shows in Bournemouth (4th of September), Liverpool (7th of September) and Cambridge (8th of September). And being the decent sort we are, we want to gift them to three lucky readers of TGTF. What do you have to do to win, you ask? Read on, friends…

You’ll need to fill out the below form completely, all four steps. First, give us your full name. Second, give us your email address. (We won’t spam you, honest. We need a way to contact you if you win.) Third, please provide your full UK postal address so we can post you your tickets if you are one of the lucky winners. Fourth, we need to know which show you want to win tickets for (Bournemouth, Liverpool or Cambridge). Finally, to prove you’re not a robot and you actually like the band, answer this one question: what is the name of their time-themed megahit single from 1998?

That’s it. Of all the correct entries we receive, we’ll choose one winner for each of these three shows at random to receive a pair of tickets apiece to the concerts in September. All good? Be sure you get your entries in by 12 PM British time Wednesday, the 27th of July, when we’ll close the contest. As mentioned above, we’ll contact the winners by email, so make sure you’ve entered your email address correctly. Good luck! If you’d rather not chance it and want to buy tickets to this show, you can buy them direct from Gigs and Tours here. Their entire September 2016 UK tour is listed below. Tickets are on sale now for all shows.

Please note: this contest is open to UK residents only and you must be able to get yourself to the designated city for the show. Please check venue age restrictions; TGTF won’t be held responsible if you’re turned away at the door for being underage and not meeting such requirements. All duplicate entries will be discarded.

Friday 2nd September 2016 – Glasgow ABC
Sunday 4th September 2016 – Bournemouth Academy
Tuesday 6th September 2016 – Cardiff Tramshed
Wednesday 7th September 2016 – Liverpool Academy
Thursday 8th September 2016 – Cambridge Corn Exchange
Friday 9th September 2016 – London Roundhouse

This contest is now closed. Winners will be contacted soon by email.

WIN / Tix to see Sounds of the City at Manchester Castlefield Bowl starring Guy Garvey

By on Tuesday, 31st May 2016 at 11:00 am

The weather has turned warmer, the sun has made more than a few brief appearances, and hooray, it’s summer! For yet another year, Manchester’s Castlefield Bowl will play host to a series of fantastic gigs at the start of July as part of the ongoing Sounds of the City series (formerly known as Summer in the City). Ushering in the five-pack of shows at the outdoor music and entertainment venue – which includes appearances by mega stars James Bay and Catfish and the Bottlemen on the 6th and 8th of July, respectively – is a hometown hero who really needs no introduction, Guy Garvey.

Last year, Garvey embarked on a solo career away from his usual buddies in Elbow, releasing debut album ‘Courting the Squall’ last autumn. On Friday the 1st of July, the Garvinator will be ringing in this year’s Sounds of the City, headlining the first night of the concert series. Joining him on stage will be fellow Mancunian Badly Drawn Boy and ex-Beta Band founder Steve Mason, who himself released a new album, ‘Meet the Humans’, in February. We’ve got incredible news: we’ve blagged two pairs of tickets to the big show on 1 July, and we want to give them to two lucky TGTF readers!

How does one go about winning a pair of these golden tickets? Well, my dear reader, you’ll need to fill out our form below and send it along tout suite. Give us your full name, your email address (so we know you’re a living, breathing human being), and your postal address (so we can post you the tickets if you’ve won). The clincher? You’ll need to tell us what brass instrument Guy Garvey play live in the Elbow song ‘Starlings’. If you’ve seen Elbow live before, this should be a piece of cake. If it’s not, have a search through Wikipedia and you shall find it.

That’s it! We’ll keep this contest open until 12 noon BST this Friday, the 3rd of June. The two lucky winners will be contacted by email. To make this fair, all duplicate entries will be discarded. Please note: this contest is open to UK residents only and you must be able to get yourself and your guest to the Castlefield Bowl in Manchester. Please also note that all under 14s must be accompanied by an adult (these are the venue’s rules, not ours, and TGTF won’t be held responsible if you’re turned away at the door for being underage and not meeting the venue’s age requirement). Good luck!

If you’d rather not chance it and would like to buy tickets to this Guy Garvey show in advance, visit this Gigs and Tours page. Many thanks to our friends there for ‘lending’ these tickets to us for this great giveaway.

This contest is now closed. Winners will be contacted by email shortly.
