By on Friday, 8th November 2013 at 10:00 am

Video of the Moment #1374: We Are Scientists

By on Thursday, 7th November 2013 at 6:00 pm

We Are Scientists have revealed their humorous promo video for their cover of Berlin’s ‘Take Your Breath Away’. I hope I don’t have to tell you what ’80s film this video is a homage to? Here’s to hoping, anyway…

The cover appears on the duo’s ‘Business Casual’ EP, now available from 100% Records. In case you missed it, we posted a stream of the EP last month. Like it, then buy it.

Live Gig Video: The Flaming Lips cover Tame Impala’s ‘Elephant’

By on Friday, 1st November 2013 at 4:00 pm

The Flaming Lips recently released their cover version of Tame Impala‘s ‘Elephant’. It wouldn’t be the Flaming Lips without something a little off-kilter about the performance, and Wayne Coyne delivers in that respect by flapping the edges of a giant silver disc around his ears like a fly’s wings. It has to be seen to be believed. Watch it below.

If you’d like to compare this version with the original, head this way to watch Tame Impala’s promo as this previous Video of the Moment.

Video of the Moment #1347: Bastille

By on Saturday, 12th October 2013 at 10:00 am

Everywhere you turn, oh look, it’s more Bastille! The latest? The promo for the ‘Of the Night’ single, which is Dan Smith and co.’s mash up of Snap!’s 90’s hit ‘Rhythm is a Dancer’ and the 1993 Corona dance classic ‘The Rhythm of the Night’. (No, no, no! I’m shaking my head! Why, Bastille, why?) The single will be released on the 25th of November. If you’re not as averse to this mish mash cover as I am, watch the video below.

And in case that excitement wasn’t enough for you Bastille fangirls and fanboys, the band are putting out a special 2 CD set, ‘All This Bad Blood’, the same day as the single. The platinum debut album ‘Bad Blood’ will be disc 1; disc 2 will have a selection of songs the band has recorded over the last couple of years plus choice cuts from from the band’s two mix tapes, ‘Other Peoples Heartache’, parts 1 and 2.

MP3 of the Day #787: Shearwater and Clinic

By on Friday, 11th October 2013 at 10:00 am

Here’s an unlikely collaboration…or is it? Austin band Shearwater (pictured above) teamed up with Liverpool’s Clinic to record a new reimagining of ‘Fucked Up Life’, which was originally written and performed by Denton, TX band – and Sub Pop labelmates – The Baptist Generals.

The song will appear on Shearwater’s lovingly conceived new album out on the 25th of November, ‘Fellow Travelers’, a collection of reworkings of other bands’ songs and collaborations including this track. And it’s Friday, so we’re giving it away. Because we’re nice like that. (Not really. It’s Shearwater’s people that want you to have it.) Either way, listen to and grab it for your very own below.
