The Unthanks / February and March 2015 UK/Irish Tour

Tyneside folk duo The Unthanks will set off on a lengthy tour of the UK and Ireland next month in support of their forthcoming album ‘Mount the Air’. The self-released album was recorded over 2 years’ time in Northumberland and is the first new recorded material from The Unthanks in 4 years. Sisters Rachel and Becky Unthank will scaffold their formidable vocal talents on this tour with a full 10-piece instrumental ensemble. Tickets for the following shows are available now.

Kentish indie pop quartet Get Inuit will bring their “dirty-pop” sound to small venues around England next month, following their debut EP release ‘001’ on the 9th of February. NME Awards Tour / February and March 2015

London rock quartet Palma Violets are set to headline the 2015 NME Awards Tour beginning next month in Sheffield, following the official NME Awards Ceremony on the 18th of February. Palma Violets played one of the tour’s coveted support slots back in 2013, the same year they won the award for Best New Band (read Martin’s live review here.)

Support slots this year will be filled by Fat White Family, The Amazing Snakeheads, and Slaves. Speaking to NME about his tour companions, Palma Violets bassist Chilli Jesson said, “I think this will go down as one of the greatest package tours that NME has had. I’m really excited to be going on tour with bands I really respect and listen to in my own time. Amazing Snakeheads are the best live band I saw all last year and last time I saw Fat White Family they made the place absolutely light up. They’re bands that are giving everything.”

Officially billed as “the NME Awards Tour 2015 with Austin, Texas”, both the award and the tour count the host city for SXSW 2015 as a primary partner. Tickets for the following shows are available now.

The Afghan Whigs / February 2015 UK/Irish Tour

Veteran Cincinnati grunge-rockers The Afghan Whigs are gearing up to play three live dates in the UK and Ireland next month, ahead of a full European tour. Their latest album ‘Do to the Beast’ was released last April on Sub Pop Records, after The Afghan Whigs’ lengthy 16-year hiatus. it stars A full listing of live dates can be found on The Afghan Whigs’ Web site; tickets for the following shows are available now.

We posted the self-directed, Go-Pro filmed video for album track ‘The Lottery’ as yesterday’s Video of the Moment; it stars the band’s very animated monitor engineer Ryan as he moves and grooves behind the scenes at an Afghan Whigs live show.

Paris via Cuba sister act and XL Recordings’ most recent signees Ibeyi have a short UK tour lined up for February to support their debut release for the Beggars offshoot. Tickets are on sale now.

Their soulful self-titled debut on XL will be released on the 16th of February 2015. As part of the TGTF Guide to SXSW 2015 and the lead-up to the big dance, stay tuned for a Bands to Watch feature on the pair by our editor Mary here on TGTF tomorrow at noon.
