Field Music / October 2016 English Tour

By on Tuesday, 5th July 2016 at 9:00 am

David and Peter Brewis – known as Field Music when they’re not busy with one of their many side projects solo or with other people – have announced a trio of tour dates for this autumn. They’ve got three shows in England with their full band to take current album ‘Commontime’, released back in February ahead of the 6 Music Festival 2016. (You can read my review of the long player here.) Tickets are on sale now for these shows.

While I’ve got your attention (and as yesterday was Independence Day here in America too), I wanted to tell you about the other thing those prolific Brewis brothers have been up to. On Sunday the 10th of July, Asunder, a new film chronicling the North East’s involvement in the Battle of the Somme will be premiering at the Sunderland Empire. The live score to accompany the film was written by the brothers and will be performed by Field Music alongside Royal Northern Sinfonia and Warm Digits. The artistic collaboration also involved award-winning British artist and filmmaker Esther Johnson and respected music writer, film producer, curator and member of best-selling pop band Saint Etienne, Bob Stanley. Fellow Sunderland quartet The Cornshed Sisters will also perform an a cappella rendition of traditional Wearside folk tune ‘The Rigs of Sunderland Fair’.

Saturday 22nd October 2016 – Gateshead Sage
Wednesday 26th October 2016 – London Shepherds Bush Empire
Saturday 29th October 2016 – Manchester Ritz

By on Wednesday, 1st June 2016 at 9:00 am

Following on from the initial announcement in May, The Divine Comedy has added on another London date to his previously announced UK and Irish tour for October 2016 and February 2017. The continuing solo project of legendary Northern Irish singer/songwriter Neil Hannon will be adding another album to its now massive back catalogue of work: on the 2nd of September, he will be releasing ‘Foreverland’, his first true Divine Comedy album since 2010’s ‘Bang Goes the Knighthood’. (Hannon has been busy with plenty of other things in the meantime, including co-penning the second album for the cricket-themed act The Duckworth Lewis Method; composed a choral work for the newly renovated organ in the Royal Festival Hall, entitled ‘To Our Fathers in Distress’; and oversaw the transfer of his musical Swallows And Amazons to the West End stage. ::cough, wheeze::)

Tickets to all the shows below are on sale but be forewarned, some of these venues are pretty small (I’m still shaking my head at Sheffield Foundry in particular), several dates are already sold out, and the first London Palladium date sold out in less than 48 hours. In other words, be quick!
