WIN / Trip to Paris to See Hugh Laurie at Le Trianon, 11th May 2011

By on Friday, 15th April 2011 at 11:00 am

Please note: you have to enter your email address in the widget or your information won’t be sent to Hugh Laurie’s webmaster. If you’ve entered your email address in our comments, you have not been entered in the contest.

So Hugh Laurie‘s latest project is completely outside of the acting arena: recording and putting out a blues cover album. Hugh is also playing some live dates in Europe starting in late April through May; his Union Chapel gig on the 4th of May is already sold out (no surprise there). But we’ve got something better for you. Just enter your email address in the widget below and you are automatically entered for a trip for two to see Hugh perform at Le Trianon in Paris on Wednesday the 11th of May.

This amazing prize includes Eurostar train tickets from London to Paris (so you need to be able to get yourself and your guest to London on the 11th), 1 night’s hotel accommodation in the City of Light, and of course, a pair of tickets to the gig. Contest closes on 6 May, at which time the online editor of Hugh’s Web site will choose the winner from all the entries received. Good luck!

Contest is now closed.

MP3 of the Day (and more!) #315: Hugh Laurie

By on Thursday, 24th March 2011 at 10:00 am

This is definitely unusual for TGTF, just saying this ahead of time. You know him for his roles in Blackadder and Jeeves and Wooster. And apparently he is the highest paid actor in an American television program for his leading role in medical drama House. But this spring Hugh Laurie will be stepping out in fine fashion, releasing a New Orleans blues-style album of covers called ‘Let Them Talk’ on the 9th of May.

Yesterday, Laurie played his first live gig to promote the album and a small number of headlining shows in Britain (including the Cheltenham Jazz Festival on 2 May and London’s Union Chapel on 4 May). The gig was streamed live on the Guardian’s Web site and we’ve been told the performance will be back online Friday here if you’d like to watch it then. In the meantime, you can listen to and grab the track ‘Guess I’m a Fool’ (originally by famed American blues singer and pianist Memphis Slim) for free from the widget below. Also below is a trailer for the album where Laurie talks about his inspirations for the new project.
