‘Folkelectronica’ artist James Yuill has released a new video for ‘Turn Yourself Around’, the first single from Yuill’s forthcoming album ‘These Spirits’ out on the 25th of March. Give into the groove and watch the video below.

MP3(s) of the Day #333: James Yuill

By on Wednesday, 4th May 2011 at 10:00 am

‘Crying for Hollywood’, a James Yuill track that is fast-paced but for some reason sounds pretty laid back, seems to be an odd choice for a remix, considering it’s already electronic-y to begin with. But DJ Shir Khan and Grown Men (aka Al Doyle and Felix Martin of Hot Chip, under the guise of a new DJ / production team) have taken the song from Yuill’s LP ‘Movement in a Storm’ and given it their own personal stamps. The DJ Shir Khan version is decidedly tropical, and the Grown Men one is decidedly more sexy. Listen to and download either or both below.

MP3 of the Day #287: Trophy Wife

By on Monday, 24th January 2011 at 10:00 am

I’m of two minds about this remix of Trophy Wife‘s ‘The Quiet Earth’ done by electrosmith James Yuill. It’s almost like it’s been put in space. On one hand, it’s super sleek. On the other hand, some of its Trophy Wife-ishness is gone. (For more on this, read our review of the double-A single of ‘The Quiet Earth’ / ‘White Horses’ from last week.) Agree? Disagree? Let us know in the comments.

(Holiday) Video of the Moment #374: James Yuill

By on Thursday, 23rd December 2010 at 6:00 pm

I was trying to come up with a witty way to close out the year 2010 here at TGTF. And then I came across this video featuring London ‘folktronica’ singer/songwriter James Yuill, in a festively decorated pub on Tottenham Court Road, playing ‘Jingle Bells’ on half-drunk glasses of stout (by an Irish alcohol brewer that I am not getting any money from, incidentally) and rather conveniently, some of his electronic gizmos are on hand as the rest of the pub patrons join in the spirit. And really, what’s better than spending the holidays with your friends and family?

We’ll be back on Monday, the 3rd of January 2011. Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season and a very happy new year!
