Video of the Moment #2769: Editors

By on Wednesday, 17th January 2018 at 6:00 pm

Editors are back, and with a vengeance. The English alt-rockers’ sixth studio album ‘Violence’ is due out on the 9th of March via PIAS, and its lead single ‘Magazine’ is a powerful introduction to what the LP might have in store. Heavy with industrial synths and overdriven guitars, ‘Magazine’ makes a bold musical statement under sharply cynical vocal lines directed toward those who “talk the loudest / with a clenched fist”.

Lead vocalist Tom Smith describes ‘Magazine’ as “a pointed finger aimed at those in power . . . a tongue in cheek poke at the empty posturing and playing to the masses of the power hungry.” Its promo video, directed by Editors’ regular visual collaborator Rahi Rezvani, illustrates the inherent lyrical conflict in a very direct and dramatic way, with ensemble dance choreography that is nothing short of spectacular.

In addition to the promo video for ‘Magazine’, Editors have announced a full slate of worldwide tour dates, starting with the three UK pre-album launch shows listed below. A complete list of Editors’ upcoming shows, including a run of American dates in May and multiple summer festival appearances, can be found on their official Web site. TGTF’s extensive past coverage of Editors is collected back here.

Sunday 4th March 2018 – Birmingham Town Hall
Monday 5th March 2018 – Manchester Cathedral

When you first hear the word “superorganism”, you might think more of a virulent, plague-causing bacterium than a haphazardly-organized yet wildly successful avant garde electro-pop band. But the moniker does fit eight-member international music collective Superorganism, whose “shared house side project” grew organically into something of an internet sensation in 2017. The band have recently announced details of their debut self-titled LP, along with a massive list of worldwide tour dates including stops in the UK and Ireland. ‘Superorganism’ is due out on the 2nd of March via Domino Records and will feature hit track ‘Something for Your M.I.N.D.’ You can watch the band’s promo video for recent single ‘Everybody Wants to be Famous’ just below the tour date listing.

Tickets for the following shows are available now. In addition to the list below, Superorganism will play at London’s Jazz Cafe on the 15th of February, and they are scheduled to appear at Dublin’s Forbidden Fruit Festival on the 2nd of June.
