This week’s Gonzo – Arctic Monkeys chat with Alexa about their new album, and Miles Kane talks about the solo life

By on Friday, 15th April 2011 at 12:30 pm

Like Arctic Monkeys? Then I dare say you will enjoy tonight’s MTV Gonzo – the last show in the current series, in fact. By now you have heard their new tracks ‘Brick by Brick’ and ‘Don’t Sit Down ‘Cause I’ve Moved Your Chair‘, surely? Well, Alexa has a super exclusive chat with the band to discuss their forthcoming album ‘Suck It and See’, coming out this summer. Alex Turner’s former Last of the Shadow Puppets bandmate Miles Kane also makes a return appearance on tonight’s episode to talk about the solo life (we mean professionally, folks!)

Who else is on? Example and Wretch 32 come by the brown couch to talk about their recent collaboration and offer an exclusive performance of ‘Unorthodox’. Acoustically! One of Alexa’s hot new band tips (and for sure, a hot tip in the UK these days, judging from the manic reactions to their shows in the UK this month with the Vaccines), Chicago’s Smith Westerns, take the time to introduce themselves. [Editor’s note: We’ll be bringing you an exclusive Smiths Westerns interview of our own very soon on TGTF.] For Director’s Cut, Wild Beasts talk us through the making of their wonderfully weird new video for ‘Albatross’. Does this all sound amazingly good? Then tune in tonight.

MTV Gonzo airs tonight (Friday) at 7 PM on MTV Music, with a repeat at 8 PM on MTV Rocks.

Video of the Moment #377: Miles Kane

By on Wednesday, 5th January 2011 at 6:00 pm

Here’s the new video for ‘Come Closer’ from Miles Kane, starring Daisy Lowe (English model and current beau of the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith). The video was directed by Dan Sully and according to the press sheets, it’s a nod to Martin Scorsese’s 1973 classic ‘Mean Streets’. Like? Dislike? Let us know in the comments section.

This Week’s Gonzo – Alexa welcomes Mat Horne and Miles Kane to the Gonzo couch

By on Friday, 26th November 2010 at 11:00 am

So what’s on telly tonight, you’re asking? ‘Gavin and Stacey’ star and sometimes indie DJ Mat Horne stops in for a chat on tonight’s episode of MTV Gonzo. Remember his background as a comedian when he says, “I had to pester the Maccabees for 3 years straight for them to put me in their video”. Miles Kane, one-half of the Last Shadow Puppets but now solo, also comes by to discuss all things rock ‘n’ roll with Alexa. Two of the hottest and most buzzed about bands, Warpaint and Mona, are profiled.

We get a peek of the new video from Beady Eye – you know, that band that was Oasis once upon a time. And hang tight until the end of the programme, because Mystery Jets perform their awesome current single, ‘Show Me the Light’. Definitely don’t miss this episode of Gonzo.

Watch this week’s MTV Gonzo tonight at 7 pm on MTV Rocks, with a repeat at 9 pm on MTV.

Single Review: Miles Kane – Inhaler

By on Monday, 18th October 2010 at 12:00 pm

Miles Kane, who is looking a lot like a young Paul McCartney these days, is about to release a new single, ‘Inhaler’, on 22 November via Columbia Records. Thanks to his nice PR people, I’ve had a listen to it already, and you can listen to it yourself below. Wow. It reminds me of great psychedelic, guitar-driven rock of the ’60s, which makes sense considering Kane himself has described what he has recorded of his forthcoming debut album (purported to be released sometime early next year) as “…quite John Lennon-y and not just acoustic, most of its, quite hard.” Amazing groove. I can see Kane moonwalking all over the stage while this song is going. Uh…is that even going to be possible? Not sure. Maybe some of you will see him on tour in November and December and can report back to us on this point.

‘Inhaler”s B-side will be a cover of American country popster Lee Hazlewood’s hit ‘Rainbow Woman’. Rather interesting choice to foist upon the record buying public, I think.

7.5/10

‘Inhaler’ will be released in digital download and limited 7″ format. Miles Kane will be touring the UK in November and December, including a stint as support for the Courteeners.
