Video of the Moment #2321: Moon Duo

By on Monday, 13th March 2017 at 6:00 pm

Ripley Johnson and Sanae Yamada, aka San Francisco duo Moon Duo, released their fifth album ‘Occult Architecture Vol. 1’ at the start of February. Back then, we shared with you the video for ‘Cold Fear’ as this previous Video of the Moment. It was the first single from that LP. On the 5th of May, just 2 months from now, they’ll be unveiling volume 2, so they’ve now showing off the promo for ‘Lost in Light’, the first single from this upcoming release. While ‘Cold Fear’ has a mesmerising rhythm, ‘Lost in Light’ seems to be its chill, dreamy cousin. Yet both of their videos are as weird as those from this band have always been. Watch it below, and stay tuned for ‘Occult Architecture Vol. 2’, out in early on Sacred Bones Records. To review more of TGTF’s coverage on Moon Duo, use this link.

Ripley Johnson and Sanae Yamada comprise prolific San Franciscan act Moon Duo. They’re releasing their fifth album ‘Occult Architecture Vol. 1’ this Friday, the 3rd of February. To celebrate the release, they’re unveiled a wacky promo video for the LP’s lead single ‘Cold Fear’. With a mesmerising rhythm and oddly engaging, trippy guitar squeals, it’s the kind of song that draws you in and like a good book, you can’t put it down or put it out of your mind. Watch the appropriately wacked out promo for single ‘Cold Fear’ below. ‘Occult Architecture Vol. 1’ will be available on Friday from Sacred Bones Records.

Video of the Moment #1790: Moon Duo

San Francisco duo Moon Duo released their third album ‘Shadow of the Sun’ on Sacred Bones Records last month, and now they’ve got a new promo video for a single off the LP. The visuals in ‘Slow Down Low’ are right in line with the duo’s trippy psych aesthetic, as described by the video’s director and label mate Domingo Garcia Huidobro of Chilean group Föllakzoid:

A black mirror monolith articulates an inter-dimensional pathway between present time and an alternate slowed down present in a teenage night out in Buenos Aires. The video was shot with digital cameras and then filtered with a analogue VHS table.

…right. I like the song so even if the premise of the promo goes over your head, there’s good music to be had here. Watch (and listen to) the video below.

Moon Duo‘s promo video for ‘Sleepwalker’ is one of those that make you “huh?” and laugh. I have it in my head that the aerobics instructor is like a Richard Simmons-type Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. And I think we can safely say that after the Republican National Convention here in America, that empty chair is just a funny, coincidental joke.

You can grab the track for free from this previous MP3 of the Day post. Go on!

‘Sleepwalker’ is a cut from Moon Duo‘s forthcoming album ‘Circles’. Fuzz rock at its best, really. Listen to and download the song below.

Total lunar eclipse tonight. So we’ve got an astrology appropriate visual for Video of the Moment. Below is the trippy, blurry and eye-popping video for ‘Fallout’ by American psychedelic duo Moon Duo. Dropping on the 4th of July, ‘Fallout’ is the next single to be released from their debut album.
