I’m a big Beatles fan but even I am getting sick of all this 50th anniversary stuff about the Fab Four’s first visit to American shores and their first American television appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. Initially, I would have thought Arctic Monkeys taking this momentous Fabs’ anniversary and playing a cover of one of their songs was a mere publicity stunt. However, when you listen to Alex Turner and co.’s rendering of ‘All My Loving’ – incidentally, one of the songs that the Beatles played on that Ed Sullivan broadcast – at their recent sold out show at New York’s venerated Madison Square Garden, they gave the classic track their own edge by slowly it down massively. Listen to and download the live mp3 from Stereogum here.
As for the ‘more’ aspect of this post, for a little more tangentially related content, Arctic Monkeys performed on the Late Show with David Letterman last month, in the same location that the Beatles did 50 years ago, now dubbed the Ed Sullivan Theater. This live version of ‘Do I Wanna Know?’ is as sneery and swaggery as you might expect. Watch it below.

London’s Fanfarlo release their third album ‘Let’s Go Extinct’ next Monday, the 10th of February, on their own New World label. To celebrate that release, Amazon is giving away the album track ‘Landlocked’ away for free. Grab it here, but hurry, it’s only available for a limited time (I assume it’ll be taken it down as soon as the album is available on Monday. We posted the promo video for the track in December as a previous Video of the Moment, if you wish to take a gander here.

We’ve got another pack of SXSW 2014 flavoured mp3s for you. This time, they’re from a band called Natives, who are from The New Forest (I looked it up, it’s an actual place in the South East). They are giving away ‘Going in Alone’, a new four-track EP.
The only catch? The first two tracks ‘Going in Alone’ (streaming below) and ‘Church’ have to be downloaded via their Web site in exchange for your email address; the second pair of tracks ‘Youth’ (Foxes cover) and ‘Going in Alone’ (Egypt Lane version) have to be downloaded from their Facebook. Trust me, it’s not complicated, just go to their official Web site for all the details. They will even remind you all over the place! (Mark of intelligence there, boys.)
If you can’t be at SXSW, don’t fret: they have a UK tour scheduled right after they return from the States; catch all the details here.

We don’t know a whole lot about r&b / soul singer Ofei except that he’s based in London. But one thing we do know for sure: he got a SXSW 2014 shout, which means it’s time for a SXSW 2014 flavoured mp3. Or in this case, a pack of mp3s. Listen to Ofei’s ‘London’ EP below and if you like it, you can get it for free in exchange for signing up for his mailing list here.
