Kent indie / alt pop band Get Inuit are gearing up for some exciting times next month, as they’ll be making appearances at both Live at Leeds 2015 and the Great Escape 2015. Ahead of that, they – along with Huw Stephens last Wednesday night on his Radio 1 evening programme – unleashed onto the unsuspecting public their new single ‘Mean Heart’.
It’s an unrelenting stonker of a tune and they’re giving it away for free for a limited time in exchange for your email address. Have a watch and listen to the lyric video for ‘Mean Heart’ below and if you like it, grab it from their site.
They’ll be appearing at Live at Leeds on Saturday, the 2nd of May, at 3 PM at the Key Club, and at the Great Escape on Saturday, the 16th of May, at 1:45 at the Komedia Studio Bar as part of the Great Day Out showcase.

In a rare turn of events (ha!) I’m not going to say anything about this free download of fellow Mancunian Deadbear‘s remix of Dutch Uncles‘ ‘Upsilon’, because the parties involved are much more eloquent about what happened here than I ever could have been. Take it away, fellas: Deadbear speaks first:
It seemed like a perfect song to try and distill into something totally simple as opposed to the beguiling complexity of the original track.
Most of the track was written and produced at night. I wanted to create that feeling of being both isolated and totally in awe, maybe in love too, with the night time – the silence, and that sense that you’re the only one awake for miles around. It’s a feeling I’ve always really enjoyed and thrived on, it’s kind of magical in a way. Especially if you’re creating something.
Robin Richards from Dutch Uncles:
We first heard of DeadBear after a collaboration with our pal Alex Hewitt (Egyptian Hip Hop) and we’ve been fans ever since. We love the less obvious approach on this remix and can imagine it being the perfect, calming reprise to the originals climax.
Duncan Wallis from Dutch Uncles of the original track:
’Upsilon’ is about an overdramatic decision to quit Facebook or MySpace because, when you’re young, you don’t always have the capacity to see other people’s lives (or the bits they want to show you at least) for what they really are. This is also a result of the immense peer pressure to join in with the flirt of social media.
Thought provoking. Listen to and grab the mp3 for your very own – and for free! – below. You can also compare and contrast the remix to the original, as I’ve handily included an embed of the original Dutch Uncles track directly below the remix.

Ahead of their sold out show at London Electrowerkz next week, Broken Hands have revealed the promo video for ‘Death Grip’, which the band explain is actually part 2, with part 1 forthcoming soon on their YouTube channel. Watch it below?
Like it? I bet you were wondering where the MP3 of the Day part came in to this post. So you can get the song for free download in exchange for signing up for the band’s mailing list here. By submitting your email address, you will be in for a chance for a pair of tickets to the Kent rockers’ sold out London show on Tuesday 31 March.
It seems, then, with the excitement of a new tour beginning, it’s perfect timing for a free mp3 giveaway. ‘I Saw You (in a Corridor)’ is the b-side of their upcoming single ‘Giant Peach’, which will be released on limited edition 7″ vinyl on the 13th of April. You can listen to the b-side and from the Soundcloud embed below, and if you like it, you can download it from this link. The video for ‘Giant Peach is also embedded under its b-side’s stream.

South Wales band The People The Poet will be making their Austin live debut tonight as the opening band at Music Wales’ showcase at 8 PM at Latitude 30, the British Music Embassy’s home at SXSW 2015. To celebrate the momentous occasion, why not treat yourself to a free download to the band’s acoustic cover of fellow Welshmen and current indie rock darlings of the moment Catfish and the Bottlemen‘s ‘Hourglass’? Listen to the track and grab it for your very own below. (Incidentally, Catfish and the Bottlemen are also on tonight at 12 AM at the same venue, and it’s so nice when everything comes round full circle, isn’t it?)
My SXSW preview / Bands to Watch on the band is right this way, with their frontman Leon answering the SXSW 2015 flavoured Quickfire Questions here.

I have to admit, the grunge-y, dark sound of Arrows of Love isn’t usually my thing at all. But there is something strangely hypnotic about their new song ‘Pretend Friends’, which they’re giving away now ahead of showcasing at SXSW 2015 next week in Austin (see appearances listed below). Have a watch of their genuinely eerie promo video for the song (it was done by Skogr, who has also worked with Fat White Family, so it kind of makes sense). If you enjoy it, you can grab the song from Soundcloud for absolutely nothing. Happy Friday!
Thursday 19/3 – Parish Underground, 11:30 PM
Friday 20/3 – 720 Club, 12:00 AM
Saturday 21/3 – British Music Embassy @ Latitude 30, 4:40 PM
