Not sure why it took 10 months for this live gig video to appear, but we’re not (too) sore about it. Paris via Winchester singer/songwriter Josh Savage, who we’ve featured quite a bit here on TGTF, played a sold-out show last night at the Islington, so it’s great timing for this video to have surfaced. Back in November 2015, we hosted the exclusive stream of ‘Quatre Épines’, Savage’s then new EP.
Around the same time and in a much larger room than when I saw him perform in Manchester in April 2014 as part of another Sofar Sounds showcase, watch as Savage and his backing band hold the entire audience rapt in attention in performance of the EP’s title track. Catch the performance below. For more on Josh Savage on TGTF, follow this link.

Emotionally cutting Manchester band MONEY will be releasing their sophomore album later this month. ‘Suicide Songs’, their second LP, will be out on the 29th of January on Bella Union, and the album closes with a song with a weighty title: ‘A Cocaine Christmas and an Alcoholic’s New Year’. As part of the promotion for the new album, the band are giving away a live version of the track, recorded live last November 2015 at Salford’s White Hotel, as a free mp3. You can listen to the track alone and download it for your own collection in the SoundCloud embed below, and if you want the full experience, you can also watch the live performance of the song from where the mp3 was taken directly below it.

exmagician – ex-principal band members of Cashier No. 9 – just released their debut EP last month. The four-track ‘Kiss That Wealth Goodbye’ EP includes ‘Place Your Bets’, and the duo comprised of Danny Todd and James Smith have now unveiled a live studio performance of the second track on the EP, recorded last month at Millbank Studios in Belfast with a drummer and an additional guitarist, just prior to the EP’s release in mid-November.
Filmed in black and white without any bells and whistles visually, it emphasises the duo’s desire to have the music speak for itself instead of the pop music standard of image being king. Have a listen and watch of the live performance below. I’m definitely looking forward to more from exmagician in 2016! Grab the ‘Kiss That Wealth Goodbye’ EP now from Bella Union.

Brighton band The Wytches stopped by the small and sweaty Corporation club in Sheffield 2 Saturdays ago for a show on the current Dr. Martens’ #STANDFORSOMETHING tour that has been taking place this autumn across the UK. During their visit to Steel City, they stopped long enough for a brief chat backstage at the venue with Dr. Martens in this video, which also includes clips of the trio performing for their excited fans and stage-diving (of course). Watch the video from Sheffield below.
This date in Sheffield is in the middle of the The Wytches’ massive UK tour going on now. For all of TGTF’s past coverage on the Wytches, go here.

Currently buzzed about Dublin punks Girl Band should need no introduction. But just in case you’ve been living in a convent / under a rock / in a cave / take your pick, you should know that their debut album ‘Holding Hands With Jamie’, released at the end of September on Rough Trade Records, has continued to stoke the fires of hype that has surrounded the band since they appeared in Austin for SXSW 2015.
If you have so far been not lucky enough to catch them live or perhaps you are just curious what all the fuss is about, they have released this video from a recent Rough Trade session, a performance of ‘Baloo’ from their debut LP. Capturing the band’s anarchic style and featuring lead singer Dara Kiely’s hopelessly rough all over vocals, this is definitely for the lot of you who call yourselves punk fans. Watch the eye-opening performance film below.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, the new Honne EP, entitled ‘Over Lover’, was released the first week of September. I’ve been buzzing about them since last summer but it’s taken some time for the feeling to take globally (it took Stereogum a year from there to get the memo). On Tuesday, SXSW announced on their second band list for the 2016 event the good news that we’ll be seeing the London pair perform in Austin! So it’s excellent timing for a new live video from the duo to pique new ears and soothe already made fans.
‘I Can Give You Heaven’ is one in a continuing queue of soulful songs from Andy Clutterbuck and James Hatcher that I’m sure has Barry White smiling and giggling to himself from beyond the grave. Needless to say, the Honne vibe is one of lovin’ and loving one another, and we can sure use some of that these days. Watch below as Clutterbuck effortlessly oozes sensuality through his vocals, with Hatcher watching on, tickling the ivories in this stripped back version of the song. Its original appears on the new EP. For more Honne on TGTF, go here.
