Video of the Moment #911: Two Wounded Birds

By on Friday, 3rd August 2012 at 6:00 pm

The opening riff of Two Wounded Birds‘ song ‘To Be Young’ reminds me of the Pretenders’ ‘Don’t Get Me Wrong’. For this Friday evening, we have for you the official promo video for it. Watch it below.

The Margate quartet go on a UK headline tour in October; read all the details here.

Two Wounded Birds‘ self-titled debut album releases today (11 June) on the Drums‘ Jacob Graham’s label Holiday Friends Recording Co., and here is the video for ‘If We Only Remain’. The song stands testament that all you need is a standard rock instrument setup (nothing electronic!) to play an incredibly evocative song.

And we should all heed the advice: “don’t change!”

MP3 of the Day #433: Two Wounded Birds

By on Friday, 4th November 2011 at 10:00 am

Two Wounded Birds from Margate are offering up a free MP3 in the form of ‘I Think the World of You’, which you can download below. Wow, this is a major development – this track of theirs is over 3 minutes! It’s not as spirited as ‘All We Wanna Do’ (single review here) but keeps the surf-y spirit.

Below is the new promo video from Margate’s Two Wounded Birds for one of the two A-sided singles released last month. Is it just me or are the colours for ‘Midnight Wave’ a bit reminiscent of the one for ‘If You Wanna’ from the Vaccines?

Whatever you think of the presentation, I think you will agree this foursome pack a lot of energy into a less than 2-minute song.

Single Review: Two Wounded Birds – All We Wanna Do / Midnight Wave

By on Wednesday, 30th March 2011 at 12:00 pm

Two Wounded Birds is yet another sunny, surfy sounding band. But shockingly (and unlike the Drums, Best Coast, Princeton, etc. etc. etc.), they’re not from America, they’re from Margate. Considering Margate is a seaside town, they probably have more cred to be doing this kind of music than anyone else in Britain.

They’re releasing a double-A sided single in mid-April, and these two tracks couldn’t be any more different. ‘All We Wanna Do’ is a happy-go-lucky track that makes you easily understand why the band released their debut EP on the Drums’ guitarist Jacob Graham’s Holiday Records and also toured with the ‘Let’s Go Surfing’ boys. As fun as a beach barbecue, it’s cheery and sun-dappled (watch the video below, filmed in Margate in what appears to be a completely DIY way). ‘Midnight Wave’, on the other hand lays into you. Like a hopped up version of the Surfaris’ Wipeout on speed, the other side of this single is just a continuous assault on your ears with severe guitars and drums. It’s almost as if the words are completely unnecessary. Neither of these tracks make the 2-minute mark, so they’ve definitely met the goal of 1) being radio-friendly and 2) not outstaying their welcome.

So far, so good.

The ‘All We Wanna Do/Midnight Wave’ single is scheduled to be released on limited edition 7″ vinyl and digital download on 18 April via Moshi Moshi Records.
