Yellowcard have a karaoke style video for their song, ‘Hang You Up’. “I don’t hear music anymore / my ears are tired of all the pictures in the words / ’cause you are in them / still”…I dunno about you but gosh, this is probably one of the most heartbreaking things I’ve heard all year. Watch the promo video below.

Single Review: Yellowcard – For You, and Your Denial

By on Wednesday, 16th March 2011 at 12:00 pm

Words by John Fernandez

Yellowcard have been knocking about, for a while now, they came about in 1997 and broke up in 2008. However, they have returned now and are ready to release another record and tour once again. The popular Florida five-piece’s lead single to their forthcoming unreleased album ‘When You’re Through What You’re Thinking, Say Yes.’ is ‘For You, and Your Denial’

It’s good. Just well nothing special. Nothing new. It delivers the same formula of lyrics that made the band hits before their 2-year split, so it’s quite apparent that the years apart haven’t really improved their creativity. It sounds a lot like their first album and definitely would not sound strange on ‘Ocean Avenue.’

That said, I can’t lie and say it isn’t catchy, it’s definitely made my playlist. But in all honesty that’s not the most glowing reference. The violin that plays all the way through is a nice trick, and gives the song an extra dimension from the usual blend of fast guitar, slow guitar which dominates this song. The lyrics are again clichéd and predictable, but such is the appeal of Yellowcard to their demographic that this song will be popular.

The problem with this song is that after the 2-year hiatus/split, people expected a new re-energised Yellowcard, sadly they are presented with the Yellowcard that they fell in love with when they were teenagers filled with angst and wanting to rebel. The fans have grown up now, it’s just a shame the band may be a few years behind.

Yellowcard’s new album, ‘When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes’, will be out on 21 March on Hopeless Records.
