Canadian trio Young Empires have managed to make a disco pop masterpiece in the song ‘Against the Wall’. Think Hot Chip mixed with Chic and heart pumping Friendly Fires-style cowbell for added measure, and you’ll have some idea of what this tune sounds like. (Very different from ‘White Doves’ from last year.) But to be sure, listen to it and download it below.
Whatever the hype and whatever the build-up, it’s always a treat to be greeted to a band who strike the right chord and instantly live up to the commotion. As the name-dropping of Canadian three-piece Young Empires gradually begins to rise, the world of emotive rock will soon turn its ears to the raw, broody tunes churning out from this talented outfit.
In “White Doves”, for example the band delivers something rather special that is infectious and uplifting. Think of the Foals meets the Ruby Suns and, well, we’re just scratching the surface of the amount of potential this group already carries. Get set, a new regime is about to break, and it comes in the form of the Young Empires.
