Zola Jesus released her latest album ‘Okovi’ in September on Sacred Bones Records. Prior to that release, we shared the promo for ‘Exhumed’ here in early August as a Video of the Moment. This week, Nikita Danilova has unveiled the visuals for ‘Siphon’, another track from her current LP. The theme to this video, directed by Zia Anger, is particularly heavy, described as “a strikingly bare and honest reaction to the attempted suicide of someone close” in the press release.
It seems quite apt at this time, given the turmoil we’re currently experiencing as more women who have been victims of sexual harassment have been speaking out. What makes this more cutting is Danilova’s pronouncement that songs on ‘Okovi’ come from a dark place. On ‘Siphon’, specifically, she explained to NPR, “this song is incredibly literal and personal. It’s hard to talk about or try to explain beyond what’s written in the lyrics.” Watch the intense new video to ‘Siphon’ below. She’ll be starting a UK tour on the 29th of October at Brighton Haunt; all her tour dates announced so far through the end of November including those on the Continent are listed here. Nikita Danilova, better known by her stage name Zola Jesus, is gearing up for a busy autumn. The singer/songwriter will be releasing ‘Okovi’ on the 8th of September on Sacred Bones, the follow-up to 2014’s mesmerising ‘Taiga’. Her new promo video ‘Exhumed’, as you might expect from the name, is just a little bit creepy. We’re way ahead of Halloween, of course, but if you’re in the mood to be scared, this new visual is just the ticket. Watch it in its black and white glory. The fourth single from Zola Jesus‘ latest album ‘Taiga’, ‘Nail’, now has its own promo video. In contrast to the smooth moves and shapes Nikita Danilova was cutting in the video for ‘Hunger’, there’s a lot of sensual writhing in imprisoning latex this time around to match the imagery of Danilova’s repeated refrain “set me free”. Watch it below.
‘Nail’ is the title track of an EP to be released on Mute Records on the 18th of September. The EP will include at the yet unreleased track ‘Circles’ and Xanopticon‘s remix of ‘Taiga’ track ‘Go’. Our TGTF archive on Zola Jesus is this way.

Move over, Sia. Zola Jesus doesn’t need to hire celebrity stand-ins for her in-video dance performances. In the promo for ‘Hunger’, the third single from current album ‘Taiga’ out now, Nikita Danilova breaks out her avant-garde version of vogueing. If lying down is considered hip, we can all dream to be music video stars one day. Watch the video below, soundtracked by a newly mixed version of the track by Zola Jesus bandmate Alex DeGroot and Mute founder Daniel Miller.
All of our past coverage on Zola Jesus is this way. ‘Hunger’ will be released digitally on the 9th of February on Mute Records and will be backed with the track ‘Compass’.

Nikita Danilova, aka Zola Jesus, just finished a tour of North America last month. It’s our good fortune that this live performance at Webster Hall in New York City of ‘Go (Blank Stare)’, which appears on Danilova’s current album ‘Taiga’, was committed to video. Watch the stark monochromatic presentation below.
Her next UK show is next week on the 18th of November at London Koko. For past TGTF coverage on Danilova’s career, go here.

Zola Jesus now has unveiled the promo video for single ‘Dangerous Days’, the first from upcoming album ‘Taiga’, scheduled for a 7 October release. I was wondering where the title of the LP (the word for a snowy forest) was going to come into things, but that was before I laid eyes on this promo. Although the environs where the video was filmed look pretty cold, Nikita Danilova’s vocals seem warm on this tune. Watch the promo below.
